Stella Clara (Star Light)

The idea for Stella Clara came from Dr. David Eakin, a retired biology professor who continues to sing in the Eastern Kentucky University Concert Choir. Dave has always been very complimentary of my music. One day after rehearsal, he came up to me and said, “You know what you should write next? A setting of ‘Star Light, Star Bright’ – in Latin.” My reply was something to the effect of “Dave, this is BRILLIANT!” I immediately contacted Charles Anthony Silvestri and commissioned him to translate the original nursery rhyme into Latin, and also to write two original stanzas. My sincerest gratitude goes to Dave for his inspiration, to Tony for his beautiful poem, and to the twelve commissioning choirs (see below) for supporting the creation of this piece.
